Chimney services

  • Chimney Sweeping — removal of creosote and soot under a sealed HEPA vacuum, with a Level 1 inspection included. This is the annual job most homes need.
  • Chimney Inspection — Level 1 for the annual check, Level 2 with a camera up the flue when you buy or sell a property, after a chimney fire, or when you change appliance or fuel.
  • Chimney Repair & Masonry — spalling brick, failed mortar joints, tuckpointing and rebuilds. Almost all of it caused by water and the freeze-thaw cycle.
  • Chimney Relining — stainless steel liners sized to the appliance, when the existing liner has cracked, collapsed, or never existed.
  • Caps & Crowns — the cheapest work on a chimney and the work that prevents the most expensive problems. If you do one preventative job, do this one.

Fireplace and appliance services

  • Gas Fireplace Service — gas makes no creosote, but a blocked or corroded gas flue is a carbon monoxide problem. Annual service covers the vent, the burner, the safety shut-off and the seals.
  • Air Duct Cleaning — the HVAC supply and return ducts, cleaned when there is a real reason (mould, vermin, heavy debris or post-construction dust) — not on a schedule you do not need.

Dryer vent services

  • Dryer Vent Cleaning — the full duct run, not just the part you can reach. Lint is highly combustible and a restricted vent makes the dryer run hot against it.

Not sure which one you need?

Call and describe what is happening — smoke coming back into the room, a smell, a survey before a house sale, clothes taking two cycles to dry — and we will tell you which visit you actually need. If we think you need less than you were about to book, we will say so.

If you want to understand the problem yourself first, the DIY guide is an honest split between what you can safely do at home and what you cannot. Prices are on the pricing page.

Frequently asked questions

Which service do I need if I just want the annual job done?

A chimney sweep. It includes a Level 1 inspection, so you get the flue cleaned and its condition assessed in the same visit. That is what most homes need once a year.

I am buying a house. What do I book?

A Level 2 chimney inspection. A transfer of property is one of the specific triggers for it under NFPA 211, and it includes a camera scan of the full flue — which is the only way to see cracked tiles or a failed liner.

Do you do all this work yourselves?

Yes. Sweeping, inspection, relining, masonry, caps, crowns, gas service and dryer vents are all done by us. The person who inspects your chimney is the person who explains the findings.

Can you do more than one job in the same visit?

Usually yes, and it saves you a second call-out. A sweep and a dryer vent clean in the same visit is a very common combination. Tell us when you book so we allow the time.

What if the sweep finds something that needs repairing?

We show you the photograph, explain what it means and what happens if you leave it, and give you the price. There is no obligation to have us do the repair, and you are welcome to get a second opinion.

Do you service wood stoves and inserts as well as open fireplaces?

Yes. Stove inserts, wood-burning stoves and open fireplaces are all wood-burning appliances that build creosote and need annual attention. Inserts often need more care, because the flue was frequently not resized when the insert went in.

Is dryer vent cleaning really something a chimney company does?

Yes, and it is a natural fit — it is the same problem in a different duct. Combustible material accumulating in a vent that carries hot air, cleared with the same rotary brushes, rods and vacuums.

How quickly can you come out?

It varies by season. Autumn is by far our busiest period because everyone remembers the chimney at the same time. Call (708) 432-3430 and we will give you a realistic date.
