A fast-growing Will County village

New Lenox has grown hard over the last few decades, and the housing reflects that — there is a modest older core, and then a very large amount of subdivision building from the 1990s onwards spreading out across the township. The New Lenox Community Park District, which serves both the village and New Lenox Township, gives a fair sense of the scale of that expansion.

For chimneys, rapid subdivision growth means one thing above all: an enormous number of factory-built fireplaces, all installed within a fairly narrow window, all now reaching the same age at the same time.

Factory-built metal fireplaces are the norm in housing of this era, and people assume they are maintenance-free because they are modern. They are not. The weak point is the chase cover — the sheet-metal lid on top of the framed chase, which is effectively the roof of the chimney. When it rusts through, water runs straight down inside the chase and into the framing, hidden until it is expensive.

The older masonry chimneys have the opposite problem: the mortar joints between the clay flue tiles wash out over the decades until there are gaps in the liner. A gap is a direct route for heat and carbon monoxide into the wall cavity, and it is invisible from the firebox — only a camera finds it. See chimney inspection.

Chimney services we provide in New Lenox

The “it is too new to need anything” problem

This is the single most common thing we hear in New Lenox, and it is the reason we end up pulling nests out of flues and finding rusted-through chase covers on houses whose owners believed the fireplace was still effectively new. A prefabricated fireplace burns wood, makes creosote, and vents through a flue that a squirrel can block. Twenty-five years is not new for a sheet-metal lid that has taken twenty-five Chicago winters.

Frequently asked questions

My house is from the 1990s. Is the chimney really due anything?

Yes, and this is the most common misconception we hear in New Lenox. A factory-built fireplace still burns wood, still makes creosote, and still vents through a flue a nest can block. And its chase cover has now taken twenty-five-plus Chicago winters, which is not new for sheet metal.

What is a chase cover?

The sheet-metal lid on top of the framed chase that houses a prefabricated fireplace — effectively the chimney roof. When it rusts, water runs down inside the chase and into the framing, completely hidden. It is the most overlooked fault in newer housing.

How much does a chimney sweep cost in New Lenox?

A sweep with a Level 1 inspection starts at $179, and we confirm the price before starting. All prices are published on our pricing page.

Do you charge travel out to New Lenox?

No. There is no travel surcharge.

I have never had the chimney looked at. Where do I start?

With a sweep and a Level 1 inspection — that gets the flue cleaned and its condition assessed in one visit. If anything looks wrong, we will show you a photograph rather than just telling you.

Do gas fireplaces in newer homes need servicing?

Yes. Gas makes no creosote, but the flue still corrodes, still collects debris, and can still be blocked by a nest — and a blocked gas flue vents carbon monoxide into the house.

Do I need an inspection to sell my New Lenox home?

Yes — a Level 2 inspection with a camera scan of the full flue. A transfer of property is one of the specific triggers for it under NFPA 211.

Do you work weekends?

Yes. Seven days a week, 7:00am to 7:00pm, at the same rate as a weekday.
